Missed seeing the students Monday, even though we accomplished a considerable amount of work towards refining our 2 SMART Goals in Reading and Math. These goals are created based on student performance and achievement needs as identified through formative and summative assessments. The two goals will further our student achievement here at Aviano and are made especially for our population.
We will continue with end-of quarter assessments so our parent-teacher conferences can be productive during the 20 minute pre-scheduled conference times. You will find the conference appointment confirmation letter enclosed in your student's Blue HOMEWORK Folder. Please return the confirmation and if you are requesting a re-scheduled conference, include your phone # as a contact, so I can call and discuss a better time with you.
Please continue having your child participate in the on-line homework opportunities. We will have shorter days, as the Daily Savings time change with "Fall Back" will make daylight disappear earlier. This is a good time to have your student work for longer periods of time on RAZ-kids, IXL Math, Samson's Classroom with sight words and the weekly spelling list.
The Reader's Response log will be discussed at conferences also, with attention to good sentences, punctuation and capitalization. Illustrations help them to show their understanding of characters, story sequence, details and plot. These are all tested skills at year's end and with sub-tests throughout the year. We are also looking forward to becoming more fluent readers and having our level of Text increase over time.
Thank you, again, for all your support. Two more students will depart during the month of November! We'll farewell Lannette first, and then LaTeasha will also head to the U.S. with her family. So many changes!!
Keep up the solid daily support and remember that First Grade becomes easier as one takes time to support their school work at home.
Have a wonderful week. First Grade classes will have a substitute all day on Thursday of this week. Just thought it might be important for you to know.
