Activities of the Week:

We're collecting 142 ounce empty detergent boxes with the plastic handles. We need 20 of these, so let your friends know, too! I have the first one saved. We'll use these for our "READ TO SELF" part of our Language Arts Block. Thank-you!

Wednesday, 14th: Individual Pictures 12: 15 p.m. Please send in picture money NLT Wednesday Morning. Thank you!
Thursday, 15th: Scholastic Book Orders Due. Please package money in a labeled envelope with completed book order forms. Return earlier than Thursday, if possible.
Every Day: Complete homework daily, collect BOX TOPS 4 EDUCATION, and read those little books!!

AND..........Begin gathering up those 'older' well-loved books for our 1st classroom book swap. We'll make a display of everyone's donations and your child can exchange their books, for other books of interest. We're going to try to do this every quarter, so get ready for the first book swap at the beginning of November. More information to follow soon!

Now on to the 'NEWS OF THE WEEK"!

I'll begin assessing for the end of first quarter on reading level, known high frequency words, a few math skills, spelling progress, and collect some writing samples. It will be very nice to meet with everyone in early November, to discuss our 'next steps' in your child's learning progress.
We had a lot of activity this past week. We enjoyed the Air Force Services/USO production of "SESAME STREET LIVE", had Dr. Walker and Mr. Albrecht(District Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent) make a personal visit to our classroom. Even Mrs. Hiyama, our principal, stopped by to speak with a small group about all the things they're doing, learning and how our classroom 'works'.

Special Annoucement:

We're looking forward to our 2nd class celebration on Friday, 30 October at 11:55-12:40 a.m. in our classroom. We don't have much time, but it will be fun and festive. Our Fall Festival will include treats and a game celebrating the season of fall time. Parents, you're welcome to send in a treat on Friday morning with apple, pumpkin or fall-themed items. We'll decorate a special bag, enjoy some at school and take the rest home. Remember, NO NUTS or NUT-Based Products FOR OUR CLASS DUE TO ALLERGIES. Yes, sweets & candy are accepted! Other ideas: stickers, a coloring page for everyone, or something else clever and creative. If you're not able to share this time, just wait for the winter, or spring occasions! Involve your child in this! We have 18 students and one tall teacher :o)

Thank you for all your support!

Mrs. Petty
