Weekly UPDATE
Welcome to October!
We're working our way through our second complete month and 'picking up the pace" as we go. Most students are beginning to progress much more on their homework endeavors. We've had several move to the next guided reading level in class and on the homework web-site, and others have progressed nicely through lots of practice on the IXL Math problems with a total of 5 top students on their counting and addition skills so far. Hop on board the HOMEWORK TRAIN and see your child soar!
Mark your calendars with the following 'NO SCHOOL for Students Days': Friday, October 9th (Teacher Inservice), and Monday, October 12 (Columbus Day). Have a wonderful 4 day weekend! We'll having our Weekly Spelling Test, List #4, on Thursday, so make certain you practice your Spelling City words before Thursday morning.
We'll work on greater than, less than, and equalities this week. This lays the foundation for counting up from the greater number when completing addition problems. So keep counting up and on from random numbers between 1 and............100. We're also gaining more confidence with place value including ones, tens and hundreds. So....... ask your child how many tens in 70, 80, 20, 10, 40, 30, 50, 60, etc. Then mix it up with random numbers between 10-99, to see if they can tell you the value of both the ones and tens columns.
We're already half-finished with the 1st quarter. Hopefully you're seeing the progress that your child has made in school thus far. It will be exciting to meet for conferences in early November.
We're also looking forward to our 2nd class celebration on Friday, 30 October at 11:55-12:40 a.m. in our classroom. We don't have much time, but it will be fun and festive.
