Saturday/Sunday: Happy Mother's Day to all our wonderful moms!!!
Another busy week has come and your child will be given the Developmental Reading Assessment. This is used to determine the level of reading achievement and their comprehension skills on the story re-tell. These results will be recorded for their 2nd grade teacher, so they can begin approximately at the same level. I am hoping to complete these assessments during the next 2 weeks, along with the final writing assessment, end-of-year math inventory, and final high frequency word test. Please make certain your child has a good breakfast and plenty of rest throughout the days ahead.
During & after these assessments we will continue to work through our weekly packets, and continue learning new math skills, and strengthening our ability to perform learning activities "OYO" (on your own). Everyday, they are encouraged to answer the question: "What can you do on your own, without any help?" They have really responded and it has encouraged them to use all the skills they've learned, from using the dictionary, word wall, environmental print around the classroom, 100 charts, flashcards, writing center, manipulatives for modeling regrouping (carrying and borrowing) in math double column addition, and their computer databases to look up information. We've enjoyed the current basal entitled "Information Finders" and they are quite the researchers now. Continue you to encourage the use of these newly acquired skills at home!
Once again, Happy Mother's Day on Sunday, the 11th of May. Your love and support have been immeasurable during the past 12 months for those of you with deployed husbands. Your children have performed well in the classroom and are almost ready to move on.
Enjoy the homework links and remember to ask your child about the science fair and their discoveries and presentations!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Petty
